Scrawl is the writing of quick notes about a new story idea. Scrawl is hurriedly jotting scenes that might slip the mind later. It’s the messiness and romanticism of writing, often tucked away at forgotten corners of favoured books until it is ready to see the light of the public. Scrawl Magazine is the manifestation of that concept into the format of a publication for creative writers with a focus on fiction. Its one mission is to nurture and spotlight the up-and-coming writer as they take their first steps into writing and publishing.
With that understanding, the conceptual approach of this publication was largely based on British academia aesthetic conventions that mirrored traditional publishing with a modern twist in a way that would resonate with Scrawl’s primary demographic of early to mid 20s adults. This meant a liberal use of serifs and a dark, moody palette
